A little while ago I read an article in MacWorld about turning an old Mac laptop into a digital picture frame. Being the tech geek that I am, I thought this was awesome, so I decided I would try and do it (I had an old laptop). Before starting, I did some research on the 'net and found a bunch of project sites for people who had done it already, and they turned out to be a valuable resource.
At this point, I put on my entrepreneurial hat and decided to create my own project site in addition to creating a database of all the digital picture frame sites I had found useful. I created a small site and threw it up in a few hours, then I e-mailed MacWorld and told them. In the meantime, I added some Google AdWords to the site, to hopefully generate a bit of revenue. When MacWorld came out the next month, my letter was in the "Letters" section and I got a fair bit of traffic to my site (and a good chunk of adclicks as well). Thus, Google now pays me for something that cost me relatively little time, and costs me no money, as I host the site on a server I already had.
